Composer Leonard Cohen has passed away. He wrote "Hallelujah," among many others.

Lived in Montreal in the '70s. Picked up lots of lore, attended concerts. He's his own muse and a poetry genius who will amaze and influence those yet unborn. He was born to be immortal.

My wife, from Montreal, is named Marianne; she can't get enough of the "Marianne" song and its story.

There's no such thing as hearing too much Cohen.

In my humble opinion" Hallelujah " is the best song ever written.

I've got a three way tie with "Hallelujah", "Time to say Goodbye", and "Memories" (from Cats). I particularly like the "Hallelujah" version done by Il Divo.

We had Leonard doing Hallelujah as the last part of my mothers memorial a couple of months ago. VERY POWERFUL. Brings tears just thinking about.

Wow jerry! Have you just stirred up a bunch of almost forgotten memories!
I had an LP of Cohens in the very early 1970s as best I remember. Can't remember its name although I think it was something like Chelsea Hotel although that could have been a track on it. The only other songs from around that time were So Long Marianne and No Way to say Goodbye and have no idea if they were on the same albums. 40 yrs hasn't helped!
My Leonard Cohen era came to a end when I married my first wife and she found his dark mournful songs on my classy expensive hi-fi stereo set-up not at all to her liking.
Moved on to Hollywood musicals and eventually other wives but that's another story ............!

I am so sorry PKfish. I hadn't read your heartfelt post before penning my trite memory. My condolences.

I don't think I ever heard of Leonard Cohen until he died the other day. I had Alexa play ,etc some Cohen last night. Very relaxing. Will play more.

He was definitely an original! Unfortunately, most of his songs charted higher when other artists covered them, but he was probably the 2nd best songwriter of his generation. Dance Me to the End of Love and Everybody Knows are classics.
