We just completed a medical outreach project visiting five schools including surrounding villages in the remote high back-country of Peru (up to 15,000 ft elevation). Our group consisted of 14 people…three physicians, four kids, and seven other adults. Debbie, an energetic woman has adopted five Peruvian schools over the past few years. She organizes supplies, books, medical services, uniforms, etc. for villagers who would otherwise have no access to these materials. Vision screening is a service that can often be remedied in one trip; so we brought prescription eyeglasses and experts. Those requiring surgery (cataracts), etc. are scheduled to visit compassionate services in Cusco. The children & villagers surrounding the schools love Debbie. They greeted us with enthusiasm wherever we went. We diagnosed 32 cataracts in one school/village. I’ve decided to post quite a few photos (two posts). The kids are delightful & their parents, who walked down from their rustic alpine rural cottages wearing colorful Alpaca wool knitted garments to visit Debbie, are interesting…very different from the typical “tourism’ experience.

I posted too many, but I love their diversity and, of course, the vivid colors of their woven wool clothing.

Thanks Phil. I looked for foxes, saw none, guess they all live with you.

Thanks. Peru is a great place to wander. Mountains ranging up to 21,000 ft elevation, extensive Inca ruins, happy, smiling people.

Lovely photos, beautiful hats and clothes. When I went last year (only as a tourist) we went to Lima, Cusco and Machu Picchu. Fabulous country with interesting history. How wonderful to go with more purpose.
