Canon printers will not function correctly under Apple Sierra.

Canon printer software (I believe drivers) will not function under Apples new operating system Sierra (10.12). Canon is working with Apple to come up with a fix in the future. I post this as a notification to anyone on a Mac with a Canon printer going from El Capitan to Sierra. You can Gogol and find more information on it.

I have not had any trouble with my Canon printer & Sierra, yet. I only print receipts, internet sent bills and the occasional e mail. My MX 922 handles that all with no problems yet.

I do printing from Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC, the software that comes with the printers will not work properly http://www.google.com/search?q=Canon+printers+on+sierra&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 and I have to wait for a fix. And this http://support.usa.canon.com/kb/index?page=content&id=ART166610

El Capitan was not a problem Sierra is the problem.

I had a problem with another program last week, so I called AppleCare. During the conversation with the tech, I mentioned my concerns about earlier programs and peripherals with Sierra. The tech confessed that, not only had she not upgraded her personal computer, but that much of tech support was still on El Capitan, with a couple of computers still running Yosemite; she recommended delaying the Sierra upgrade for at least three months. That same day I found that the IT department of the large corporation I used to work for still has Windows XP running on all the thousands of corporate computers; trials with all newer versions up through Windows 10 have shown that it would not be cost effective to upgrade.

I am not having any issues with my Canon Pro 100 printer.

My old saying is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"......however I often don't listen to myself. My iMac was running Yosemite perfectly and I "upgraded" to El Capitan. I then started to get the spinning beach ball. I went back to Yosemite. Then I "upgraded" to Sierra...another mistake. No more freezes, but my wifi kept dropping. I have no reason to keep upgrading (don't want or need new features that I wouldn't use).. I went back to Yosemite.

Do you color calibrate your screen and printer to print photos? I can print from the Pro 100 and front feed on the 9500 mark II, however all the photo prints are color wise off from the ICC profiles.

There are always driver issues and bugs when a new OS is introduced. I always wait a few months before upgrading. The rapid introduction of new operating systems with often "new features" that are often of very little practical value is unfortunate and more of a problem than a help to Apple customers. There are a number of Windows laptops with i7s, 16 Gig memory, SSds and graphic cards promising fast performance at a cost $1000 or less. Actual performance testing yields mixed results with some i5s outperforming i7 machines. Realibility is another problem in my experience. If you want blazing speed get someone to build you a tower system with premium components. Don't expect a cheap, compromised machine to perform complex, resources hungry tasks.

My experience has been that even though Sierra update with little issue, there are some hidden issues that Apple is just trying to ignore. Hopefully they will get to fixing some of these in the next release. My example is with requiring manual connection with external NAS drives, which Apple engineering (a level above Tech Support) claims was intentional but will not provide any reasoning. I say they just plain failed here and don't want to admit it. I really miss Steve Jobs, as he would have never allowed release of crappy software. Apple becomes more like Microsoft everyday in their release of untested, buggy products, the exact reason some of us went to them in the first place. Now, at every new release, we hold our breaths until we find out what just got broken. Lousy way to run a company, IMHO. Sierra seems more flash than substance! YMMV

I have a 6 yr old Canon scanner and a 4 yr old Canon Pixma printer, both work just fine with Sierra.
