Chocorua: color vs. black & white
Here's a photo I posted recently and my attempt at respectable conversion to black and white. Conversion was done in Camera Raw using method explained in the Elements 13 book by Kelby & Kloskowski. C & c please.

THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION!! This is a nice photo that I like looking at and consider relaxing. This is not a photo that I would have converted to b&w because I think the colors are what give the photo the serene feel. So I would vote for this to stay color.
If you had the opportunity to shoot this I would try to eliminate the vegetation under the water but still keep water in the scene and bring the mountain and trees closer.
Sometimes it's helpful to ask, "What does color
add to the image?" In this case, for me it's the fluffy white clouds against the blue sky, along with the rich green landscape and lovely reflections. Serene and gentle.
Without color, for me this image doesn't really have a focal point. Also it's difficult to see the pebbles under the water in foreground that appealed to you.
As luvmypets stressed, these words are
my opinion only and are coming as a casual viewer, not someone who has the personal memories of this beautiful day.
Regarding candidates for b&w conversion: below is link to a topic rich with discussion and information, as well as photos, if you have a few hours to check it out

Really nice shot; I prefer the color version, which I think has great eye appeal.
Beautiful image, Dennis! I like the color!
In my opinion, photos that generally fall in the category of "landscape" nearly always lose some visual interest if converted to B&W. Of course there are exceptions, but for me photos like this one with blue sky, green vegetation, and other colorful elements should be presented with their full compliment of colors. This is only my personal preference and should not be taken as a criticism.

Thanks, Linda. I will check out your link as soon as I get my new storm door installed.
Thank you all for your comments. I agree with the preference for color. I chose this shot because it has so many elements and textures. The sand under the water in the foreground was very challenging and I was happy I fixed it as well as I did.
