Ok, i am getting a Nikon d7000 which already has an internal focus motor but want to start out with a fixed lens. I realize i dont have to get a G lens since mine has the internal motor so which would be better? 35 mm f/1.8 d or 50 f/1.8d .
I am wanting something to give me clean, shots in low light situations, like portraits of my grandaughter inside.
The D7000 sensor has a crop factor of 1.5, so a 35mm in the film world is the same as a 50mm on a digital (52.5mm) , and a 50mm on film = 75mm on digital.
If you want a "standard", then go with the 35mm. The 50 will give you a slightly longer lens, but would give you a standard if you decide to later move up to a fill frame, like the D700.

It's purely a matter of taste. Everyone who gives you advice will be voicing their personal opinion, their personal prejudice. I've own both lenses and with the speed being identical flip a coin and then buy the less expensive one.
