Some photos don't show up properly in ON1 10

Can anyone tell me why some jpgs show as a greyed out square with a slash and when opened they look like a pixilated mess? I'm attaching one photo that acts like this, plus screen caps from ON1 10.

Thanks,
Deb

Corrupt file???
Does the image display correctly in Windows Explorer preview?
Will it open in another editor?

Yes, it opens fine in Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro. There are a few photos that create this problem in ON1 10. Could it have anything to do with the profile that it was saved in? I use several different programs when pping photos - the black and white conversions were all done in Nik as a PS plugin. Some photos have been scanned on an Epson flatbed scanner and I think they output with an odd profile. But I don't understand why it can't see a jpg properly. What should the profile be for a photo that you want to print (in black & white)?

Wow, a toughie. Since Windows preview and other editors can open it with no problem, it sounds like ON1 doesn't like something about it. Was it edited and saved with another editor (any odd options on saving?)? I'd send a note to ON1 and explain, with as much info about what works and not. If they really want to do some problem analysis, they might want a copy of the "bad" file to work with.

I've sent them a help request. Apparently they're really busy with requests this weekend - let's hope they're not dealing with serious bugs.
Thanks for your interest.

Please post any result. It would be interesting to find out what happened.

So the solution was simple. ON1 Help Desk said to make sure the image was in RGB (or sRGB). I seem to have a few photos that are not. For some reason, photos scanned on my Epson V550 don't automatically save in that color space.

Cool! At least it was simple! I'll have to remember that just in case a problem crops up with something else.
Thanks for the reply. Is there a scanner parameter (option) that would set RGB as default?

I was thinking about that. I've put the scanner away for now but I do have a few more scans to do. Will report back.
Thanks.
