I had the opportunity to visit with a bride whose wedding I had the opportunity to shoot about a year ago. She told me that the day was a complete blur in her memories. Had it not been for the photos that were taken, she said she would have no memory of the day.
As an aside, the "First Dance"gets me primed, and I have all that I can do to keep it together during the"Father/Daughter dance."
The financial renumeration may be the motivation at the beginning, but that my friends is why I do it.
Well put Tim

Agreed, I also get caught up in the emotion. I also love actually "becoming a part of the family." I would say that roughly 90% of the families that I become involved in a special event (not just weddings) end up sending me Christmas cards, invite me to go fishing, etc. I've also made a few really good friends that travel quite a distance and work with me. (who could that be?)
