recording date taken on d7200

I just noticed that my d7200 is no longer recording the date taken. is there a setting to correct this?

what manner you referring to. directly on picture. or EXIF file.

exif file. when I try to set up to view the date taken when reviewing the photos, the column is blank. it shows the date modified, but not the date taken.

Are you talking about Windows Explorer? If you are you can right click on the label line and choose from a "bunch" of additional data to display.

How odd, I just noticed the same thing on Nikon D7100 images. I right clicked on an RAW file in Windows File Explorer, selected properties. The Camera section has a Date Taken field, which is blank. Farther down under the File section is Date created, Date Modified and Date accessed. But, in a TIFF file, which was a saved and modified Adobe DNG, all the metadata is there.
