Is there a phone number for Sony? I would like it if there is one.

Yes, there is.
Unfortunately, they don't seem to have a number for the location "in hiding."
However, if you go to the Sony website, scroll to the bottom of the page and look for "Contact Support."

Thats funny. Is that because Sony's site asks which country one is residing in before offering a phone #?

The site my computer takes me to, is Sony Canada.
If you live in the USA, your computer will take you to Sony USA.
If you live in Europe, your computer will take you to Sony Europe.
It really doesn't make much sense to call Sony Canada if you live in Germany, or to call Sony Europe if you live in Utah, does it?
And no, they don't ask where you reside. With today's technology, you don't even have to tell your computer where you reside, it knows!
It also doesn't make much sense for my to find all the phone numbers for all the Sony offices, if by going to their website, you can scroll to the bottom of the page and look for "Contact Support".

Looking at the banner at the bottom of this page, my computer 'knows' I want to buy the Sony SELP18105G E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS

Yup! You only need to visit a website once, and your computer (and the ad-providers) remember!

... and from what little I know, if the cookies on one's computer are wiped out, so is that memory regarding the website one had visited.

So true!
Then again, many people don't even know what cookies are, much less how to wipe them out.

In response to kangurw, Carl D wrote:
That's not true, I updated mine from 2.0 to 3.10 in a single update and there was an update in between.
Carl, as I will further elaborate after this one, though I had no reason to doubt you in the first place, I KNOW you're correct in your assertion, which contradicts the statement made by kangurw.

kangurw, you never replied to the request I made with a source to substantiate your assertions regarding this particular device, the a6000 camera or the computer employed, a (late 2013) Apple MacBook Pro with RD. Perhaps you were elocuting in a fashion done in a group huddle with a team of software engineers. But those are people who work with you.

While I continue to assume that you are a qualified computer engineer (or software specialist, etc.,) if you don't have actual working experience with these specific devices, then I presume your preceding statements/assertions are merely opinions based on your experience. It appears to me that you generalized them to cover a wider scope than you actually know is true. If you genuinely did not intend for your statements to come across as facts, perhaps you could learn to qualify such statements in the future so they're not so easily misconstrued.

On the other hand, I do thank you for taking the time to participate and help me with my a6000 problem. :D

lev29, have a look at this list (it's very long), there may be an answer here:

I'd like to take a moment to thank everyone who made constructive suggestions or pertinent tangential points on this thread. My problem has been solved! In large part it is due to the URL tropics68 provided for me above; to a lesser extent, though still valuable, so was the URL provided by Morning Star!

I realize I cast some doubt in my first review of tropics' link, posted early in 2015 by "Josey." But what was KEY to solving the problem, after registering myself as a new member of this Sony Photography Forum, was using that particular link on which I posted my plight. Over the course of this morning and afternoon, 6 members posted replies to my query. One of those subsequent replies was, "Read member Josey's quoted post above yours again ... In short: run the update software again ... "

Having found no other suggestions, I followed that recommendation. In Josey's was the key concept which I'm paraphrasing here: even though the a6000 LCD display is dark, run the Update again and again till it works.

You know what? That's exactly what happened! On the 4th try, a growing green-colored progress bar appeared in my laptop's window. When it was full, a note appeared to activate the soft key "Finish". Funny, it took a few minutes before clicking on that key actually made the whole Updater window disappear ... and the camera was working again. I checked the version and now it reads 3.1 .

Anyway, thank you all again!

FYI - to be more specific, the Home Page for this Photography Forum is:

By the way, below are two consecutive posts in the dyxum forum thread that succeeded my post for help with my Sony a6000 camera problem, i.e. being turned into a brick.

when I do updates, I always transfer the update to the memory card and do it that way, never with the camera connected to the pc ......... or Mac
stiuskr wrote:
Not possible anymore, updates must be done with camera tethered to the computer. Can't say for sure but think this started with the SLT's, maybe the E mounts and carried over but I don't think any recent Sony can be updated by memory card.
Finally, turning my camera on 12 hours after the update was successfully performed, confirmed its still being in working order. Thanks all, again. 8-)

So have you found any benefit to the upgrade. I'm still on v2 and now I'm afraid to upgrade.

Don't know yet and I haven't looked to determine what the update consists of. Perhaps John F has a point?
