Hi Stubs,

I have the D-7100 and IMO, it is the best DX from Nikon.

It has one downfall, a small buffer. I have been able to mostly fix that with a very fast and usually expensive SD card which was on sale.

I do not know whether that issue has been fixed in the D7200. If it has, I would go for it.

The other goodie that the 7200 has is an internal WiFi Connection.

I had to spend $65 (tax included) to get the WiFi adapter for the 7100.

So, if that is something you would use as well, again, the 7200 would be the choice.

My 2 cents

PS:

I use the WiFi to sync to my 10" Tablet if I want to really get a close look at a shot I have taken.

It depends on the type of photography you do most of the time.

Good for Stills, especially Portraits, not much use for events where you don't have the time to pour over each shot.

Spend the extra money and get the Nikon D7200. You won't regret it. The D7200 is not quite a year old. The D7100 is about 3 years old now. Both are excellent cameras, but I like the D7200 better. The D7200 sells new for $1100, body only. The D7100 does not have built in Wi-Fi. You have to buy an adapter for the D7100, another $50 extra if you want it. Hurry, refurbished D7200 cameras at $769 sell fast.

Tough choice, two excellent cameras with extremely good image quality. If money is a major factor, go for the 7100. If you want and will use the wifi and money isn't a major factor then go for the 7200, it's technology is slightly newer. Which ever one you pick, you can't go wrong, they're both top shelf DX cameras.

FYI:

I went over the link to DP Reviews that was posted and, although I have relied on their information in the past, they got a part of the comparison wrong.

The part is the type of file formats available. My D-7100 has all of the ones that count that the 7200 is showing.

I'm not sure what JPEG v.3.2 is but mine has a choice of NEF 14 bit or 12 bit and also between compressed and lossless compressed.

If you want a slightly faster response time, 12 bit RAW is fine unless you are going to blow up the file for a large poster.

You can also set a 1/3 crop size for all shots that again increases speed.

I have the D7200. Bigger buffer and builtin wifi are the main advantages, a little better low light performance, also. All are important to me as a wildlife photographer. I can't believe there are any refurbed D7200s yet. I have over 60,000 shots on mine and it's going strong. Id spend the little extra. I'm considering a refurbed D7100 as a backup body, you really can't go wrong either way. And yes, I've used Adorama before, they get high marks around here.

Adorama is great for purchase and customer support, you may also want to check out B&H Photo and Nikon for refurbished equipment.
I have a d7200 and my wife has a d7100. in my opinion, the d7200 is better for action photography and low light photography. if neither of these options fit your needs, the d7100 is fine.
in my experience, you would be better off with the d7200, but it is ultimately your choice.

D7200. Better dynamic range, deeper buffer improved low light focusing. Read some reviews. And yes this is a great deal from Adorama I posted several days ago. Our esteemed Administrators chose to banish it to the Chit Chat section. Adorama also offers a 3 year warranty for about 27 bucks.

For me, yes. But I am quite happy with the D7100 overall.

"How did the surgery go, doctor?"

"We almost saved him. Sorry."

I'd get the D7200. It's newer, it's better, and it's selling for a fraction of what it sold for when it was introduced.

That would be "they are" or "they're" not "their" almost the same camera.
