The Air Force BX has the 7100 with the 18-140 MM AF-S DX Nikkor lens for $1100 a savings of $600. And no tax.
Does that sound good? I do plan on going to a camera store in Ft. Worth, Texas before going to the base.
Thanks.
Earl

Earl,

It's the same price as Nikon USA/B&H/Adorama is offering right now - The camera stores are tax free and offer free shipping - sometimes they offer a few "goodies" with the package (memory cards / camera bag) - you can check them out to see what the different stores offer.
And generally, it takes a few days to get it - so the "take it home now" is the benefit of the exchange.

Lots of options for you ;)

And you won't go wrong with the system - it's a good one.

I will Probably buyt the Nikon 7100 camera. There are two deals at about the same price. One is a two lens deal with the 18-55/3.5-5.6VR and 55-300/4 4.5-5.6 VR lens.
The other is a one lens deal with the AF-s DX Nikor 18-140 lens. I assume the one lens deal is a much better lens. Will be using the camera when traveling for the most part. Which deal would you recommend?
Thanks.

Also don't forget to practice a lot with the camera before you need to use it....nothing worse than taking bad pictures because you didn't know how to use the camera.

He has 7 months to practice I usually agree with this advice.

However, the D3xxx, D5xxx and D7xxx have good auto modes too.
I got my first DSLR, totally entry level D3100, in 2012 and in less than two weeks had my first real photo op with it, the annual Waterfront Blues Festival. With 200 practice clicks on the camera, I shot over 300 shots in one day, using the full auto mode, and some of those shots are still among my favorites.

I'm just saying yes, practice, practice. But don't let all the buttons and whistling bells intimidate you. Learn at your own pace.

Or for $50 more, version 1 of the Nikon 18-200.

the only difference between version 1 and 2 is that the 2 has a focus lock switch that keeps the lens from zooming out when you're walking around. And the letters VR are in gold instead of red. :)
