I have an opportunity to pick up a Sigma 150-500 Lens for my D800. Although I'd plan to use it for BIF, the reality is its mostly a bad case of GAS. I was initially looking at the Sigma 150-600, I know someone selling the 150-500 for $400.00.

Is it worth it? Advice from anyone that might have this lens would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have the Sigma 150-500, and like it fine. It's a little soft at 500mm, but then, I've read that the 150-600 is a little soft at 600mm.

Big deference between $400 and $1100. If you can afford it go for it. But I am going to stick to my OLD 150-500.

I use one also (150-500) and agree with the above comment, especially wide open.

As long as you didn't have your heart set on the 600mm, go for it. Otherwise, every time the subject is just out of reach, which will happen no matter what lens you have, you will kick yourself.

If it is the last version with OS -$400 is a great price. Try and be at 450mm when you can and crop .....

That is a very good price for the 150-500mm. I would thoroughly check it out. It is a nice lens. I had it before I sold it to buy my 150-600S.
If it's clean, $400.00 is a good deal.

It is the Optical Stabilized Lens, so I guess its the last Version. I couldn't find any reference to a Non OS version.

My biggest concern (looking back at posts when that lens first came out), was people seems to be "wishy-washy" about the sharpness. I'll take a few test shots with it, and if its remotely sharp, it sounds like it might be a bargain.

That is a good price if all is well with it. It is a great lens. It worked great on my D800.

I recently handed mine down to my wife in favor of a Nikon 200-500. It is better but not over three times better. (It cost more than thrice what you are looking at. )

It is a little sharper if you back off 500mm a bit. So be sure to test it at different zooms.

The Sport version isn't.

For $400, it would seem to be a no brainer. Assuming nothing is wrong with it.

The NIKON 200-500 will do a great job for you. Otherwise, you MIGHT have a YUGO part for your BMW.
