Hi,

When using flash as field flash should you you reduce the output of the flash by 1 stop or 1/2 stop?

Not sure what you mean by "field flash". I think you mean fill flash. If so, that's not an easy question to answer. It depends on what you're trying to achieve. As a photographer/artist, it's all up to what you're trying to create in the image. 1/2 to 1 full stop is usually sufficient to fill in shadows without degrading your main exposure. There are times in subdued light that I've turned the flash down to -3 to just use it to get the catch light in the eyes. It wasn't necessary for actual fill, but still needed as stated.
