I hope you can help.
I am interested in purchasing a wide angle lens for my Canon T1i and found this Canon EOS 20-35mm lens for sale on eBay.
Question Will this fit on my camera?

I am on a budget and always looking for a bargain!

Thanks
Geoff

Your camera uses EF mount type lens... If the advertised lens is that then Yes it will fit... If not stated in the ad, then email the seller what mount it is...

Thanks for relying so quickly.
I did contact the seller, this is their reply.
"As it mentions it is a Canon EOS mount."

I have tried google, but still unsure.

Is it this lens?
This link should provide the info you need.
Looks like a great lens, short zoom range, but review looks great!

http://kenrockwell.com/canon/lenses/20-35mm-f28.htm

"This L lens is optimized for 35mm film and full-frame digital, and of course works on all 1.3x and 1.6x Canon cameras."

"On 1.3x Canon cameras it will see angles-of-view similar to what a 26~45mm lens would see on a 35mm camera.

On 1.6x Canon cameras it will see angles-of-view similar to what a 32~56mm lens would see on a 35mm camera.

Clearly this is a silly choice for anything other than a full-frame or 35mm camera."

The Canon 20-35mm zoom lenses are no longer made. As I recall, it came as a 2.8L and a 3.5-4.5 (regular) lens. Both lenses should fit either the APS-C or the full-size sensor cameras since these lenses were introduced for the EOS film cameras. The zoom range is not very large. IMO, I wouldn't spend the big bucks for the L lens (they go for around $800 used). The 3.5-4.5 lens typically sells for about $250-300 used. But, this lens was found to have significant barrel distortion.

As an alternative, you might try to find a used Canon 20mm 2.8 prime (fixed focal length) lens. This lens sells for about $500 new, so if you can find one for around $300, it would be better lens than the 3.5-4.5. The 20/2.8 lens is a great lens (I have one and use it for those occasions when I need a wider angle than my 24-100 zoom).

If it says that it works with Canon EOS, it will work on your T1i.

Does the auction show a picture of the mount? Does it look right? (Either it will look like the lens you have, or it will be COMPLETELY different).

Does the pictures show the front of the lens? around the front element it will say either EF, EFS or FD. Your camera will work with EF or EFS, but not FD.

I understand not posting a link to the auction, but if you are still unsure, save the pictures from the auction and post them here.

I just did an eBay search on "Canon EOS 20-35mm" - the first hit it is this lens:
http://www.canon.com/camera-museum/camera/lens/ef/data/wide_zoom/ef_20~35_35~45_usm.html

That is a 1993 vintage lens and it will work fine. I am a sucker for the older Canon glass.

Geoff... The Canon EF 16-35mm F2.8 L lens is another great lens you might want to check out. I bought mine off of Ebay for $1300.00. Looks and works like brand new. Just another option.

Probably a more useful range too.

Doesn't the 20-35mm lens mounted on a T1i become a 32-56mm lens with the Canon 1.6 crop factor? (not really a wide angle at all)
Wouldn't the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM SLR Lens for EOS Digital SLRs be a better choice? (16-35mm with 1.6 crop factor)

They made that size for the FD and EF mount so be careful - you camera needs the EF mount. Also, I see on eBay that they made the "L" series and standard EF-s series lenses in that focal length.

Why would you want this focal length when your camera probably already has/had this focal length in the form of your kit lens (18-55mm)? If you really want a wide angle lens for your T1i look into the 10-22mm EF-s lens. Since you have a camera with a crop sensor that lens you are considering will behave like a 32-56mm lens on a 35mm format camera. If you had a full frame camera body then the focal length you are looking at would be much better. The EF-s 10-22mm will behave on your camera like a 16-35mm which will give a very wide angle image on your T1i.
