So I am now practically retired, working one day a week. Problem is boredom, just ask my wife to tell you about that.

So does anyone in the St Louis, Jeff City, Columbia, Rolla, Springfield area want to go on a photo-shoot in this area? Can we get a group together for a tue/wed/thu?

pm me

Meetup groups have become really popular. You could start your own meetup group. There's a small fee to keep one going. I think it's about $15/month. I'm a member of nine photography meetup groups and a camera club. I did a Google search for photography meetup groups in the St. Louis Missouri area. There are numerous ones. Check out the ones at this link. Double click on them to go to that particular meetup. Sometimes they will state "Content of this meetup is only visible to members". Once you join you'll be able to RSVP to meetups.

If you think you're bored now, wait till you add another day to your week. :D

One solution is to spend more time sitting in a chair staring at the monitor - eight hour minimum. :D

As dirtpusher said, take a look at Meetup.com. You can find all sorts of activities to keep you busy 24/7 - photo, painting, dancing, music, hiking, witchcraft, astronomy - the list goes on.

Amen to Meetups. I go to one in Fuqua-Varina, NC organized by Jim Stephenson and Curtis Hamilton. It's been a great mix of local models, traveling models, techniques, etc.

I ALWAYS like to go on locations with other photographers. Please keep me in mind. I shall P.M. You with my e-mail addy.

BOARD???? What's THAT? Being "retired" is something that I have dreamed about for 45 to 50 years (worked since I was 15 - and apprenticed under my father). Disliked the electrical work that I did as IT became BOARING to me. Always wanted to be an artist primarily a Photographic Artist. Been that for going on 10 years now - I am NOT board.

In fact --- I have really never been "board" as I am 'self-entertaining'.... Being an extreme autodidact will do that to a person. I read a lot, watch VID's, go out every day with my camera(s) -- Edit RE-EDIT -- Print -- Attend gallery shows -- Drink, not to excess -- Cook for others -- Make "stuff" (wood and metal work).. Jezzze!!! I do not have the time to be "board".

Please do keep me in-mind about going out and about....

I am on Facebook =

Yes, as many hoggers have suggested, see if there are any photography Meetup groups or camera clubs in your area. If not, or the focus and/or the personality of the group is not your cup of tea, start your own! I currently run 3 groups, one photographic and two collectibles. I would do more with my other interests but the limit is only 3 groups. Here in the metro NYC area there are probably close to 100 different photography meetup groups and independent clubs for one's pleasure. Do a Google search. Join one, join many!

I joined the NY Photo Safari Meetup group in 2004 and 3 years ago assumed the Organizer position. Now, I could plan photo shoots and events that I desired which would also appeal to others and revitalize the group. We now have close to 2900 members and 30 to 50 photogs RSVP at each event.

I'm also the current President of Park West Camera Club. Since 1936, we have been one of the most active clubs in the area. We plan 30 to 40 weekly meetings every year featuring leading guest photographers and speakers (Tim Grey, Photoshop and Lightroom guru is presenting, Jan 25), monthly competitions, workshops, portfolio reviews and critiques, manufacturers' demos, an award winning newsletter, website with member galleries, social events and parties and field trips!

There's a plethora of photography groups out there including the Sierra club, Professional Women Photographers, the Bronx Zoo, museums, colleges, etc. Inquire locally, search online, Craigslist, etc. Can't find one? Start one!

If anyone needs help starting a group, feel free to PM me. Best wishes and Happy New Year!

Yes, by all means... much more time in front of the computer. Shoot RAW, when you are able to get out and shoot. That'll put you in front of the computer more hours.

meetup is good but its also great to post your info here.
I mentioned a photo trip I will be doing in the spring and I had 6 or 7 people say they would love to come with me....

Im retired, sold my house and moved from a 5 bedroom, house with very large shop and garage and photography studio into a one bedroom condo. Talk about bored....

now I get up everyday , take my camera and go to a park or small town or just ride around looking for that next great shot.. In the summer im on the boat with my camera..

Remember you dont retire from work, you retire TO something
in my case it was sailing and photography...

enjoy every second of it....

Kinda off-topic, but I don't understand boredom. I was last bored when I was 8, or so….

My old man cured me of that.
