Good point. It is a really nice picture, and what it is is a character capture.

That's not Street Photography though, as that would not be the character of the person as this is, but the character of the person's relationship with the surroundings (the character of "life" ).

It might slide by if the background wasn't so dark as to totally isolate the subject, or if the field of view were wider. That might detract too much from the quality as a character capture though. I kinda like it as is, but wouldn't label it as Street.

Interesting "street"
Her contrasts flamboyant get-up islets her off well from the dark drabness of the BG...I presume the Steelers lost.....

At that moment, your street photography happened to capture an environmental portrait, albeit a bit stilted / posed.

To imperiously claim it is not "street" is (IMO) arrant - and errant - self-important, opinionated bushwah.

Check the introductory comments to this section; loosely characterizing as those statements are, this certainly fits.

I feel need to respond even though it wasn't directed to me but was to my image.

My feeling is Apaflo, there is a wide range of what is considered to be street photography. To me, MY PHOTO IS street photography. This was a candid shot of a fan on the streets of Cincinnati before a Bengals game. It seems that if an image does not meet your criteria you discount it as not belonging in the street photography section.

The image posted 'Lonesome Fan' is the type of street photography I do. Everything I post would be of this type. You may classify my image as a street portrait but I still consider it a type of street photography. I am posting the original image which shows a wider point of view but I crop to focus more so on the subject. I have decided this will most likely be my only post here because YOU Floyd have created so much drama I feel there is no end until you are no longer the moderator. I will just post my street photography elsewhere. Please explain (if you can) How is it that you can be a moderator to a street photography section and you don't post images to back up your opinions and definitions so we can see YOUR VERSION of street photography?
Thank you.
Dave

Since my name was used, I feel the need to expand a bit on this. Keep in mind that Floyd gave you "his opinion", which is well and good. My opinion is a little different, but no more important. Street photography shows the characters on the street, and sometimes the character of the street, which might include or exclude people. I'll disagree with Floyd, and I don't think he will mind. That is what this section is all about, to show what we think street photography is all about, and then listen to someone else's opinion. A true way to learn and grow. Graham Smith said you are drawn to a picture because it is interesting, and yours certainly is. I would have stopped and had a few words with this lady, she looks interesting! Also, your image is very nicely framed, I can see all of her, nothing cut off, I love that.

Thank you Phil !!! I agree but I just want to clarify that my response isn't just about my image. Its all of the threads that have been posted since this section was formed. Yes, he gave me his opinion ... indirectly. Which is fine and again it is his opinion which seems to be (to him) the only one that holds value. It goes on and on which I see no end.
