New Kelby PSE 14 book--first impressions

On Friday I received this book that I had pre-ordered from Amazon back in mid December. I have been using PSE 10 until 14 came out in late November.

The book is about 356 printed pages and measures 10" high x 8" wide x 3/4" thick; I don't have a scale to weigh it, but I'd guess it is in the 3 lb. range. I haven't had time to review more than the first two chapters. The First is on the Organizer and how to use it, but since I gave up on the PSE Organizer several years ago after it scrambled my 'Catalog', I didn't delve too deeply into it. That said the Chapter is well organized and understandable.

The Second Chapter is about using RAW and how to work PP within RAW. It's very well done, understandable and gives Scott's work flow procedure. It also explains why he uses the tools in that particular order.

So far, and I'm just getting into the book, my main criticism would be that the print size is too small to make it easy to read in anything but good light. During the day and by a window, it is readable, but at night even at my desk which is well lighted, I have to use a 50-100-250 watt bulb at the 250 watt setting. (I know we are not supposed to use incandescent lamps over 75 watt any longer, but I purchased a bunch before they were banned )

Throughout the book he shows screen shots of the menus for the tools and refers to them; unfortunately the print on the screen shot is way too small to read; I keep a magnifying glass handy to read them.

Why don't you return the book to Amazon? You could probably purchase the book as an eBook. Then you can control the size of the print.

Very true, but I don't mind 'for fun' reading with a Kindle, but as a PP guide/tutorial book I find it much better to have it open to the instructions while I'm trying the topic., and searching back with a kindle, isn't as easy as flipping the pages of a book.

As I said, I think the book is well done, but was only cautioning those aged and experienced elders, like myself, who may have difficulty with low light levels and small print, that this book contains both of those problems for older folk with fading sharpness of vision.

Is it worth getting in your opinion?
