Every picture with D750 and Nikon 28-300 lenses is under exposed by -1/3. Has anyone else had this problem. I went into fine tune optimal exposure in custom settings and added positive 1/3 in matrix metering. Now all photo's look great. I'm shooting in Aperture Priority. I haven't touched
exposure compensation at all. Its reading 0.

What are you taking images of? If it's light/bright, the camera is going to darken the exposure.

Landscapes mainly. But it doesn't matter if I'm shooting in sun or cloudy conditions all seem under exposed.

I think you just made the case why camera manufacturers have a fine tune option! Matrix metering is not infallible and will vary with conditions. For example, when shooting products on a white background I often have to dial in +2 to 2.33 EV to get proper exposures.

And metering cannot read our minds. What looks great to me might look overexposed (or underexposed) to you.
Yes, supposedly there are absolutes that determine proper exposure but they don't take into consideration personal preference.

I had to return a D750 from underexposure problems.
I had the fine tuning B6 at +6 & the images were still underexposed.
Sent it back to Adorama & received another D750. This one is within specs & only need +3 in the fine tuning.
Adorama is a great company to deal with. I'm sure the first D750 could be re-calibrated by nikon but why should i waste my time & $$ to send it back to them.
Adorama will take returns if under 30 days of purchase date.
They returned the unit & it will be sold as a refurbished unit by them.
I received a huge amount of negative posts from fellow members who doubted my intentions.
A fellow member MMC stuck with me to the final out come of the problem with the first D750.
If you don't think manufacturers produce perfect products you are wrong.
I am in the automotive service business & we had several cars that were given back the the automaker as not repairable.

I have never owned a digital camera that didn't underexpose 1/2 stop to 1/4 stop. That includes a Canon 1D Mark II, various Pentaxes and a Nikon D800E. I have always attributed this to the desire of the manufacturers to not blow out high lights.

When you shoot in Aperture priority, the camera adjusts shutter speed, but there is a limit to its adjustments. Inside the viewfinder, the camera will tell you if you are going over or under exposure, and you can adjust the aperture to make it right. I usually shoot in Aperture, too, and sometimes, I shoot without noticing that the exposure indicates over or under.

Have you compared the results with images from other cameras - brands and models. I often get shots with exposures I don't like, so I make adjustments in post.

I am not doubting Adorama's honesty and responsibility to notify customers about pre-owned and used cameras, but it would be helpful if those of us who returned or exchange items with the original suppliers would publish the serial numbers of the returned items... just in case...

When I use flash on white walls all of the pictures are overexposed. Flash on 18% gray are perfect.

How do you know that your shot was under exposed /checking histogram in camera, in computer, looks underexposed on the screen/? Please post your pictures before PP checking 'Store original" box.

Like I have mentioned before there is an update that they did for me at the camera store that has helped a lot with focus issues
