Overprotective LCD screen

Morning all. I recently purchased a Canon G7X, similar to Sony's RX 100 series. The camera has a touch screen with many of the settings obtainable through this screen. I want to know if anyone who has one, has put on a protective LCD screen (plastic or glass), and found the touch screen sensitivity has been reduced or eliminated? I know there are other cameras with the touch screen as well, but wonder if the screen sensitivity would vary from model to model.

I had a 70D with a touch screen that I used a plastic overlay on. Never noticed any difference, as I recall. I doubt that you can use a rigid cover, such as glass or hard plastic. It would probably prevent the screen from "feeling" your touch. The static sheet overlay would seem to be your best choice. I've used them on several devices with no issues.

I've had plastic covers on all my touch-screen cell phones, and they didn't interfere at all. Glass would be a different story, though.

Thanks very much for your reply. It appears I need to order one larger then cut it to fit the G7X.

Thanks Jerry. Makes sense about the glass not working. Wondering if I should wait till they actually list one for the G7X and buy one bigger and cut it to size.

Stop in most any store and pick up some for cell phones and cut to size. They're cheap.

They have glass covers for the iPhones and they work.

We've used the glass variety on iPads also and they work fine while having a nice slick feel.

When I got my D7100 recently (factory refurb) I wanted a screen protector. They had the plastic overlays for about $8-10 or a plastic one for $15 (Promaster). I chose the Promaster and it works great. True, the D7100 is not a touch-screen, I just wanted protection for the screen, itself. I asked the sales guy what HE would use on HIS camera, and he said he uses a glass one but its about $40. No thanks, Ill take the one for $15. Good enough. Looks good, works good, Im happy.

The problem I had with the softer plastic overlays was that, in time, the corners would start to curl up from use. This does not occur with the harder plastics.
However, both plastics get scratched over time and the result is flare or distortion, both of which make it hard to see, especially in sunlight.
4 years ago, I moved to the more expensive multilayer real glass protectors on all of my touch screen devices.
I have never looked back. Glass is much easier to keep clean.
