The big one was moving around really fast. Only paused for a split second, then off again!

I'm having trouble keeping up!

Nice capture!

In the insect world, this is typical size disparity between large female and smaller male.

I think it's a checkered beetle of the genus Enoclerus. Still working on species.

Per your Exif info: Nikon D90 at ISO 400, with Nikkor 105-mm lens, 1/60-sec at f/16, Aperture priority.

Nice exposure. Available light, or with speedlight?

Built in flash. I had my 300mm on looking for birds when I spotted this insect. Quickly switched to 105 to get images before they flew off. Didn't have my SB-800 with me so had to use built in flash.

Built-in flash not as powerful as speedlight, making fill light less effective at f/16.

Been there. Now I carry two bodies with different lenses, etc., so I am ready for extreme close-up as well as distant subjects.

Hoping to get the D7000 this summer. I'll keep the 105 on my D90 (with the SB800 & ring flash) & use the D7000 for 300mm.

Word of advise: If married, con the wife into carrying one system; if single, hire a Sherpa.
