Merry Christmas (My Yard Decorations)

Can't put up my yard decorations this year, so far, as I made them from plywood, and with the rain we are having, afraid they will warp. Seems as though we will get a clear day on Christmas, so will put them up then.

Go to the hardware and get some "spar varnish" it is what they waterproof wooden boats with. Give them one or two coats and the rain will not bother them. Thompson's wood sealer might also work. But the spar varnish is used on the hulls and decks of wooden boats, I know it will work.

Another one that will do is liquid Polyethylene. That is plastic in a solvent, brush it on and when it dries the wood is covered with a coat of hard plastic. More coats makes it thicker. They cover roller rinks with it. But it is a bit expensive. My dad taught me to use it on gun stocks so you could hunt in the rain.

Very nice. As "the bear," said, get them waterproofed, and you'll be ready to display.

As desperate as you folks in CA are for rain, if it warps, it warps. A small price to pay for some drought relief.

Many thanks for the info about spar varnish. Being a "land lubber", I hadn't thought of it. Going to repaint them this summer, so will do the spar varnish then. Merry Christmas to all.
