Icicles

I invite criticism and reactions to a series of photographs I have created every winter, when the temperature deeps to below 12F. There are a couple of windows in my attic/3rd floor that face north and west and have storm windows. Just before frost, I carefully clean all windows so that when condensation freezes up, I can photograph the icicles that form on the inside surface of the storm window. The compositions become denser and deeper as the temperature gets lower. I show here three images from January 2015, photographed with the D800E and the AF 60mm macro on a tripod and remote release. The files have been reduced from 103.4MP to 8.42MP. I need to photograph before or at sunrise, you will notice the background getting pink as the sun comes out and light is reflected from buildings.
Have you ever seen similar images? Is the subject interesting?
Thank you in advance,
Sarantis

I find frosted windows to be quite beautiful, with their unique and graceful patterns. A very lovely series of close-ups; thank you!

If you would be willing to post one or more of these with "store original" selected, it would help us to see the details better. You can just add directly to this post.

edit - I see now that you did provide downloads in the photo gallery:

I'd also be interested in seeing one or more of these a bit brighter and more contrasty, just for fun :)

I believe you are the first person from Greece I've met on UHH. Love this worldwide community!

Yes.
Very.
Wonderful shots ssymeono. It would help to have download checked but thanks to Linda we have some that were. I believe these shots have a lot more to offer with more time spent in post processing. Welcome to the section and am looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Welcome to the FYC section! Wander about, offer your ideas, and keep sharing!

In short, yes, your project is very interesting to me. It brings back memories of frosty-decorated windows when I was younger and our winters were cold here. I miss that (the cold and the beauty of the frost like filigreed lace on the windows)

Dave has demonstrated one interesting possibility for making the intricate detail of your frost show up more, and there are routes you could take with the last photo that showcase the color and the detail too. Please keep sharing these interesting abstracts.

Wonderful. I shapes fascinate me, especially nature made. Ice crystals are enchanting and exotic (remember I live in sunny Southern California, I don't shovel tons of the cold, wet stuff). The decreased exposure works best for me because it highlights the crystal morphology.

Thank you all for your suggestions and helpful comments. I am already adjusting contrast. I am particularly glad to have posted these images for those of you who live in warm climates and have never seen frosted windows.

Echo Linda's comments. One thing that might bring out detail in the crystals is some backlighting.
