Yellow Dandy

Taken with my 105mm micro Nikon.
There are teeny tiny bugs on the petals. I'm thinking I'm going to see if I can get even closer to capture those bugs with the camera.

Very nice Hammster! what were your settings on this? could you have gone small aperture for better DF?. That's a lot of bugs! Any idea on what they are? That one is pretty sharp on the bottom petal, nice job.

Thanks, Erv. I was at f11 and ISO 200. I'm ok with the DOF as is. Not trying to get it all in focus. No idea on bug. Looked like a beetle. Definitely not a flea.

That is a good looking bug. Love to see your try at getting it closer.

Are you shooting in aperture priority, or manual?

Who put that second image in my post? I know it's a crop to show the bugs closer. I'm going to try and get it without resorting to too much cropping. Also, who reworded my picture title?

This is a macro forum. Close-ups are only allowed to support macro-photographs. Each thread must have a macro image. Macro Forum Manager makes sure all images are properly labeled, so closeup photos are not misconstrued as true macro-photographs. (It has happened to several of us). If you provide a better macro image, it can be used to replace cropped macro.

Manual.
Then what shutter duration did you choose? (I suspect 1/200-sec).

You're close. 1/250th. I didn't really mention shutter speed since that can be very dependent on available light (no flash used) and what outcome the photographer is looking for. I never know how helpful the shooting specs are since sunny vs cloudy (for example) could result in very different settings (depending on what the wanted outcome is). I suppose you could say I shot in aperture priority as my intent was to use f11. I just didn't select aperture priority on the dial.

Both my D90 and D5000 auto-set to 1/200-sec when my SB-600 is attached, but Nikon full-frame cameras sync with shorter shutter durations. What model are you using?

I have a D300.

Your D300 has an electronically controlled vertical-travel focal-plane shutter, that allows Flash Sync Speed up to 1/250-sec. Additionally, Flash synchronization up to 1/320-sec (FP) adjustable with Built-in Speedlight or optional Speedlight (will reduce GN).

Yeah, I knew about sync speeds. Just didn't use any flash today. Thanks.
