On our way to Utah in October of this year we passed this formation just west of the Blue Mesa Lake, somewhere west of Gunnison. These shots are SOOC, Sony A6000 w/kit 16-50mm lens. I believe the settings were manual, F9, 1/400sec, ISO 100.

I hope everyone takes the time to download these - for the clarity and brightness in particular.

#1 is wonderful! I love the composition and details. Beautifully captured.

Agree, Jederick!! Switched to the a6000 last year, gave away my D7000, and have never looked back! Stunning results, as the OP has witnessed.

I appreciate everyone's nice comments. Back in May when I was just learning this camera I was not so sure about it, especially this particular lens (and have several posts on UHH saying so). It just took me awhile to get the hang of it. As I began to learn how to use it I totally fell in love with the camera and have done a complete about-face on this lens. It's become a go-to lens for me. The kit 55-210mm is even better I think, and I now have a Tamron 200-500mm that I really like also.

These are excellent. In download the sharpness and detail can be clearly seen. WOW! You were there at the right time. This last summer the lake actually was completely full at one time. Not always the case the last couple of years. I'm there most of the summer and love seeing it like this. You captured the Pinnacles in a unique way - love them.

Thank you. In all honesty we were just passing through at the right time of day and such. The photo was taken from one of the pull-offs along the highway so I can't even boast about hiking to get just the right angle. We spend most of the summer in south central Colorado along the Sange de Cristi range and were on a trip to see our son and family over in Utah. It had been 23 years since we'd been in this area (that time we were on the way to Panonia and went by way of the north side of the Black Canyon).

My word Ron: You are the man. I'm so proud of your humility and grace. You are probably the father that I would like to be for my daughters.

Those photos you took are absolutely of the best quality. I have a brand new (8 days old) iMac 5K 27" computer - and your photos - every single pixel of them adds up to an incredibly beautiful image on my iMac.

I too saw some interesting videos of the Sony a6000 and have been using that camera to make comparisons to other cameras. Your experience - as you have expressed - will help me greatly when I make my final decision.

Thank you !
Tim
