Two images, one without HDR and the other with.
The original image was processed in ACR PSCC. The second image is the HDR processed in Photomatix, then ACR, PSCC and finally some Nik filters. I like them both. Its just a matter of personal taste.
The HDR is more dramatic but I like both.

#2 then #1
Your HDR image is beautiful. Perfect example of how you can impact your landscape photography with HDR.
Just personal taste but I much prefer the original shot. The colors are relaxing and realistic. It is a really beautiful shot.
Hi there IC, you nailed it! A great place and lots of super places to hike. Thanks for sharing. Great shots.

The second one draws me into the shot. Great job.

ImageCreator,
The HDR processed image has a slight bit more depth in the forest and mountain, but suffers greatly from a color shift to the pale purple. Therefore the original is a better choice to me, but it has a bit excess in blue cast from the sky.
Both of your color problems could be corrected during each processing step.
If you corrected the purple cast you would have a winner.

When I was processing this, my monitor didn't seem to show a purplish cast--had it, I would have corrected it. But for some reason when I uploaded to UHH it did. I agree the purple has to go.
On another note, I lived in your area for 30 years--in Fillmore. No offense, but I'm glad to be out of So Cal and up in Nor Cal.

ImageCreator,
If we assume your monitor is calibrated as closely as possible for colors, and if you see the purple cast on one image and not the other, it could be how the image was uploaded to UHH.
We know if a high resolution image file is uploaded without using the Store Original option, the server at UHH will compress the uploaded image to a smaller web friendly image file. This compression can cause all kinds of odd rendering in our computers.
Suggestion:
Open your finished image file on your computer, if all looks okay perform the following:
1. Save the image file to a slightly different file name (ManzanitaLake[b]-2]/b].jpg), insert the -2 to re-name the file name slightly different.
2. Resize the image to 1024 x 768 Pixels.
3. If your image editing software has the option set the resolution to 300 (dpi/ppi).
4. Upload the image with Store Original and compare the image 1 to the image 2 renderings on your computer.
That is the only suggestion I have for the purple cast.
Off topic.
I wish I were back in N. Ca where I lived for many years, but retirement brought me back to Ventura where my daughter and family live.
I am planning a trip up past Fillmore this morning to the Rancho Camulos Museum for a few photo opportunities and to get out of town for a while.
Below is an image you may recall from the Fillmore & Western Railway.

#2 Steals it for me, I think it's the golden cast of the grass and the tree in the water.
#1 Is a beautiful image in its own right.
Just a matter of personal opinion, I guess.
BTW, outstanding photography on your part.

Nice job bringing out the detail in lake and sky.
Can you adjust the color to recover the blue of the sky?
