I'm sure this has been discussed many times before, but I can't find it right now. If I upgrade to an FX Body, can I benefit from it with DX glass, or would I have to upgrade the glass as well???

If you decide to go FX (full frame), the only way to benefit from the full frame is to acquire FX glass as well. If you use DX glass, you will only end up with DX format images. Nikon glass is on sale... :)

You won't benefit but you can still use them in the DX mode until you are able up grade the lenses to FX. And if you choose a hi-res FX camera you won't loose significant image quality.

There are a lot of good AF D lenses available used for considerably less than AFS.

Note that while you will have the DX crop you still will benefit from a higher pixel density.

Or...you could forgo the "upgrade train" all together :)

Don't get caught up in the hype...FX isn't the be-all-end-all of photography.

Copy That Sir! I'm shooting with a 7100 and I'm getting some good stuff, no doubt, but I guess there's always that desire on my part anyway, wondering if my pictures would be that much better, what am I missing?". Know what I Mean? Financially, it is a No Go for me. Thanks for your "wake Up Call" Back to improving what I've got!.

Almost all FX bodies give poorer result with DX glass than a DX body. So if you don't get FX glass you will get poorer result than what you can get with an DX body with the same glass.

I'd like to some credible data to support this.

rpavich, I have to agree with you. I have both a Nikon D7000 (DX) and a D750 (FX) and I absolutely cannot tell the difference between D7000 photos and D750 photos when I view my photos on my 27-inch HD Dell monitor. Looking back I probably should have spent the $$ on getting better glass for the D7000 and perhaps upgrading to a D7100. I have no interest in making wall-size murals so I guess the D750 was a tad over-kill. Just my opinion. -FiddleMaker

Put the DX on ebay and gradually buy FX. There are lots of good lenses available, and you don't have to buy new. ebay and KEH (and others) have good non-new lenses for reasonable prices.

Other than the quality of glass and build the major difference is angle of view - FX angle of view is greater than that of the DX

Jerry, Thanks for the above links. I will probably keep both the D7000 and D750. Good to have a backup camera. But if I do get some additional glass I will certainly consider refurbished lenses. And that would be for the D750, more than likely. -FiddleMaker

if you can't afford both, go for the full frame glass in the future. it works great with both cropped & full frame sensors. then when you can afford the full frame camera, you already have the lenses.
