While the continuing drought has stressed the aspens, we still had some nice colors this year. Here are a couple of before and after shots taken near Bridgeport.
Really like the HDR version
Off 395 there is a dirt road that will take you down to those aspens. . .where there are some beaver ponds. Check it out next time you are there. Fly fishing us good down there, too.
On the tech side, I'd use the 16x9 crop and get rid of some of the empty space at the bottom.. nice images.
with the 16x9 crop, there are 3 or 3 different pictures in that #2 print.

chemdoc,

You did well trying to balance the exposure in camera; this is where multiple exposures with Exposure Compensation applied to two of the captures helps HDR processing. Your problem with image 1 is with a lens shade that is too small for the focal length of your lens. It looks like a round, soft, rubber, screw on hood. At wide focal lengths (17mm), the hood will cast a shadow into the lens. A flower hood (Tulip) will help to eliminate this effect at all focal lengths.
The more you can get correct in camera, the less time you will spend in front of the computer editing your photos.

Nice work in the HDR processing, it looks natural as when you were in front of the forest.

Nice work with the HDR adjustments. The presentation of the final image could have been improved by moving the three left mountains a little more to the left, there-by showing more of the right mountain. This should have been accomplished when composing the scene in camera, but could have been accomplished by coping the final processed image.

Thanks Dennis. That was my first time up there. Are you referring to the road to Green Creek? We did see some beaver ponds up that way.

Thanks for the suggestions Dennis. Is this the cropping you were suggesting?
