"Best" is always a subjective term... ;)

The class 10 cards were developed for todays HD Video Cameras.. I'm sure that others would work just fine, but since this camera is capable of HD Video, why not have all the capability at your fingertips that you can get..

I agree with the Class 10--I personally don't shoot a lot of Video if any but I would look for ones with at least 20-30 MB/sec so you don't slowed down in any way. Good to over buy.

I was just told to stick with around the 8GB--cards are cheaper; plus it forces you to download and save the images more often. Point was if you lose or it fails on a 16GB card and it's full--you lose 16GB worth of data. I like the idea of smaller cards personally. Also look at the specs as to how quickly they can be downloaded--they give you those #'s on the card---I looked at some last night on Adorama and although they were cheaper, IF I would have had say 8 MB's--the cheaper card would have taken approx 4 more minutes to download. Perhaps not that significant but depends on how important that is to you.

Yes and no. I like having a bigger card in camera, but if you are shooting anything 'important', you are better off with more smaller cards for when you eventually have a card fail. That way you lose less.

For your fastest cards look for udma 6 cards. They can transfer at up to 90mb/sec, and they say so on the card. You can also look for cards that say 400x (about 60mb), 500x (this would be 90mb)or even 600x+ (this is about 103mb). The faster speed allows you to actually get those high burst rate shots. You won't get a buffer backlog like on the cheapy cards. And don't get seedy-speedy nifty fast cards. Stick with name brand for the quality.

Thank you for your input. Do you know anything about the "transcend" brand cards listed on Amazon?

No. I am using San Disk Extreme Pro 16GB. I have not had a problem with the San Disk card. Have Taken over 8000 shots (109GB) on one card with never any kind of issue. So... if yer asking, I'm saying "go with San Disk".

This is what I do as well, use 8GB cards so if one fails I haven't lost everything. I shot RAW and still I have NEVER had a 8GB fill up before I'm ready to download the shots I have.

I use Class 10 cards exclusively. If they are fast enough for 1080p video writing and reading (and they are because I have a 1080p video cam) they're certainly WAY fast enough for virtually instant writing of 4MB still photo files. I don't do long trips with lots of shots so I typically buy and have just a couple 8GB cards along.

The idea of putting lots and lots of files on one SD card doesn't appeal to me so I doubt I'll ever buy 16GB or 32GB cards for still photography even if they become dirt cheap - unless 8GB is discontinued.

Have one problem with one big card, or lose the one big card, and you're shafted. Yes, there is retrieval software if the card messes up but it can't always save you.
