Before, After and After

Sitting here at my office, raining, nothing going on, so decided to play with HDR a bit. The first is the original -0- of 3 handheld. The second is LR HDR. The third is Photomatix HDR. You can see if you just want to play with dynamic range, LR HDR is the way to go. If you want to 'enhance' a variety of elements along with increasing dynamic range, Photomatix can be interesting.....

Very nice to be able to see the differences in your comparison shots here. And it looks like a nice place to hang out for a few hours too!!

The LR version is quite nice. A little oversaturated perhaps (rendering foilage candy-green).

In comparison, the Photomatix version is visually confusing; almost painful to look at. Sense of spacial depth is nearly completely lost, rendering the scene into a flat mess. Photomatix does allow for more subtle results, and can produce something similar to your LR HDR version of the image. But you will need to depart from the presets and take full control of the parameters.

HDR the lost world.. for those who think it is an exclusive world, wrong! HDR brings out that which we can see because our eyes adjust to the light. Your photos exemplify that well.

For a $30 investment the HDR Project 3 Pro is being dumped because Platinum is being introduced... much like PSE is dumped when a new one comes out.

Captain Kimo is paid by Photomatix Pro but still a good source of info. Great 200pg plus book for free.

Interesting comparison! I see lots of photomatix images and many times i think the photomatix image looks over cooked somewhat unnatural... Just my opinion.... I love hdr when it is done right :-D

Thanks for the comparison. I've been using Photomatix for several years. I will try some Lightroom HDR today.
