First of all, it's Canon with a single "n" in the center of the word. Cannon, on the other hand, makes sheets and towels. That's an honest mistake, lots of people do it.

Secondly, experiment with the camera on your own. If you have any knowledge of 35mm cameras now is the time to exercise that knowledge. Stay away from the AUTOMATIC settings. Look for well published videos or printed materials that deal "TOTALLY" with the 7D. The 7D is a wonderful camera and you have been very wise to choose it. Sadly, the guidebook that comes with the camera will not be your guide.

Thirdly, as you progress in this field stay true to the products that Canon has to offer and remember L lenses cannot be beat. I totally stand on that statement!

Blue Crane Digital has a series of excellent DVD's. Of course each one markets to the next. For basic use of the camera look into Karl Taylor's Digital Photography Series. And then there is always the Canon EOS for Dummies book. Ironically, these books are more difficult to read than others. At least for me, something about the layout seems to make that series a little more difficult to comprehend.

Lastly, buy a Mac with a large screen to view your work. Simply and sincerely, it adds so much more excitement to the daily learning process of your new adventure. Photoshop CS5 is also wonderful. If you are a student or employed in an educational institution you will find great deals through your facility's resources when purchasing.

I added the last paragraph because in today's digital world of photography there is so much more than just printing an image. Good luck and have fun!
