I traveled from South Africa north to Algeria in 1981. My recollections are that you will see a lot more wildlife in Kenya. The highest population was in Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania which is between Zimbabwe and Kenya! I had a 500mm mirror lens that got some terrific animal photos. Also had 80-200 f/2.8 and wide angle on Olympus OM 1 and 2 cameras. Took 80 rolls of Kodachrome64 and Ektachrome 400. Those were the days!

I think you should check out the political stability of Kenya.
I have a friend who has been working out there for a couple of years, recently leaving it and returning to Canada. He says that the country is going downhill fast and he likens it to a powder keg waiting to explode.

This is in Kenya and Tanzania, East Coast of Africa, but if you want to see Victoria Falls, they are usually included with a South Africa trip (Botswana, etc). Our 12 day trip through Kenya was one of the best ever, and if we are able, we would love to tour South Africa. More of the Serenghetti is in Tanzania than in Kenya, so some tours travel in both countries. I would suggest you do some homework and you pick. Good Luck You will have many photo ops any where there. Tony
ps: Our trip was 8 years ago when Kenya was more stable. Check out Tanzania.

Right about Tanzania being largest part of Serenghetti
Last time there went to Rhongai in Kenya to visit with a teaching Brother and we "Safari'd" through the Serengetti--Just unbelievable---but as matter of interest contacted a Dr with Doctors without Borders this AM re. your question, and he confirms Kenya being ready to pop is accurate!!

We've been to Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Tanzania (for the start of the migration in Jan) & Kenya (Sept for the return of the migration). We love safaris but have concluded that our Kenya one was so brilliant that any other safari would now be a disappointment. We saw wild dogs with pups, leopard taking a kill up a tree, antelope giving birth (watched that for an hour), wildebeest crossing the Mara & three of the Marsh Pride males (all in separate locations, of course) mating. I could go on. If this is your first safari then I suggest Kenya. PM me if you'd like further details of any of these trips.

I went to Tanzania a year ago and loved it! Serengeti, Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro Crater, nice people, no problems, saw the big four, lots of photo ops, would go again! I have not gone to Kenya or Botswana, I will go next month to South Africa. Good Travels!

The area around Victoria Falls and the falls. The Rising Star Cave area near Johannesburg, SA.

I think you still see more wildlife and more of the "traditional" Africa going to Kenya/Tanzania. We went last week---one week in Kenya and three in Tanzania and both were wonderful. We took 5000 pictures each and are still enjoying them.

As far as the political situation in Kenya keep on top of the situation--the parks you go to for animal watching are far from the general turmoil in Kenya so be sure to work with your tour company. Kenya and Tanzania are big countries so many parts are not impacted.

Our next trip will take in both Botswana and Kenya/Tanzania.

thanks for all the responses a tough decision yes and health concerns and safety need to be considered
so maybe I need to change my line of thinking and pick a trip to Europe or South America....even though Africa seems to be calling

Ebola is almost exclusively found in West Africa--this discussion is about East Africa. The continent of Africa is about four times as big as the U.S. It's equivalent to more than ebola in California and wanting to go to New England to visit. In East Africa that was never a concern at all except for a few U.S. people.
