Finally, I got myself an used Nikkor 80 - 200 ED 2.8 in perfect condition.
Now I have two lenses only, a 50 mm 1.8 and 80 - 200.

Life is beautiful!

Nikon has made many of these 80-200 lenses. I have the 80-200 D f/2.8 that does not have a push/pull zoom. It uses two rings. One for focus the other for zooming. I love the lens.

Good lens--just be aware that Nikon no longer services this model. I had two with slow irises (so that they overexposed using small apertures). Impossible to fix, but they make good video lenses.

I have one too, and the best part of the zoom is that the lens doesn't expand.

That is a Great Lens, I had it and sold it to a friend, what a mistake, I am now trying to buy it back. The old push pull works!

I have the AF-D version of this lens which I got by trading a 28-300 AF-S. It is a great lens and I use it often. Maybe some day I will replace it with a 70-200 VR, but it is performing really well. For 300mm I bought a 30 year old F/4.5 AI-s which is just phenomenal and $200 or less.

Great lens, I have two. An older model and then the newest. I have read many times that the newest optically is equal to the 70-200 vrii. My wife uses that one and our shots equal one another. I am not even tempted to get the 70-200 f2.8 and I don't need the VR. When using either one use a tripod or a monopod for best results. That being said, I will be selling my older model.

The first version of this lens was released in 1987. You have the second, improved version from 1992. This is considered a professional quality lens. It was designed for the then famous film camera N90 and has sensors to match the 3-D qualities of that camera. Your images will be sharp, especially when you shoot on a tripod.
Enjoy!

I have had all of the lenses from that series and consider them all very good. Personally, I preferred the next version as I'm not really into push-pull zooms, but it was a winner and saw hard use on my F5. Don't have one anymore, but I would buy a used one in a New York second and recommend them to folks as a great used buy!

Myself, I prefer the two separate rings. Personal preference, I suppose. But, do any of you miss not having that extra 10mm that the larger, heavier and more expensive 70-200 has? I would think not. Both are 2.8 which, to me, would be the more important factor.

I’d love to have one.

I hate it that some of these zoom lenses expand as they do. Makes them look cheap and “amateurish”. To me, anyway.
