These were taken at about 8800' altitude in south central Colorado over a period of about 6 weeks. Does anyone know what plant it is? The resolution is not so very good on my iPad but hopefully good enough for someone to recognize.

This is colloquially know as a "Snowflower", because they usually are the first flowers to bloom in late Spring, at altitude: http://www.marietta.edu/~biol/biomes/alpine.htm
"The snowflower is very interesting. It is saprophytic. It has no above-ground structures except for the flowers. Instead, it has underground roots which feed on decaying roots of trees killed by fires. These flowers appear in areas where a number of trees have been killed by fires."

Wow, I knew someone would have an answer. Thankie.

Getty's subject is far prettier than mine. Could be the area, different species, or maybe I managed to miss the most colorful phase. Or whatever.

Anyone have any other photos of this parasite?
