This is a photo of my wife Kristi on one of her 3 quarter horse geldings she competes on in Barrel Racing events throughout the West. I am very proud of her, she is 65 years old and competes against women and teenage girls a lot younger then she is, and she usually kicks there butts. We start the year in Arizona and then move north to Neveda, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and then back home to Oregon.

Horses have been my life for many years in more ways than one. We had 77 of them at one time. Raised them, showed them (I got to be the first one on them  ) and now just ride for pleasure. I quit for a few year and started back a year ago at almost 74. I hope I am never without one. Went on a 13 mile trail ride (one way) with a woman 91 years old. She had been on a 15 mile ride the day before.
I am an equine artist, (since I was 4) so that's another way for me to enjoy them.
NICE PHOTOS!!!!

Horseart: I believe you girls that ride everyday or ride often keep your youth and agility, and yes I can't imagine us without horses. We have been married for 46 years. Never had any children and the horses are our family.

Wonderful!!! Were you at the round-up? Do you know the South Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho? Have you been to the Riggins Rodeo? My older daughter lives in Pendleton. Just before she was born we went out to Riggins for the rodeo. I was having a wonderful time and a friend said"they're calling your name" Brilliantly I said " Oh. She must have had the baby"Turns out it was one of the guys that works for us on the ranch and he too had come out for the rodeo. Horses, any livestock and my 'mentality" goes elsewhere sometimes!

Buckeye, he's a blue roan, flat shod, Tennessee Walking Horse. A great big boy at 16.3 hands and very high spirited, but managable.
I quit riding at almost 70 and decided I wouldn't ride any more, but at almost 74, (lasy year) I started back and wonder why I ever quit!!!
This blue boy is not nearly as pretty as his sire, but he makes up for it in being such a good boy.
You would laugh if you saw me get on him. I actually have to climb on a ladder.

Years ago I had a wonderful blue roan. She had some appy in her and she was not of the "style" like your guy. She was a ranch and packin horse. Louie gave her to me just before we were married. She really loved me, and ditto, but her and Louie really hated each other. One summer he was shoing and told me to go get her. When I got her over, neither of them was happy! It took him forever to do one shoe. They faught like little kids! He got ready for her 2nd hoof and she had enough I wish I had had a camera because no one will believe this. She threw herself down on her back and kicked her legs like a kid with a tantrum! I laughed so hard I thought I'd pass out! Good thing Louie never came after either one of us over that.!

Hilarious! I have a dog that does the same thing. If our other dog has a toy she wants, she has a tantrum. She falls down on her back and kicks as hard as she can and screams as loud as she can. I can never get the video quick enough. We'd love to have seen a horse have a tantrum!

I'd of given ANYTHING to of had a camera!First Roney, then Louie's face--and nothing he could do about it!!!When he gave her to me we were somewhere over near Meredian or someplace where he had a bunch of horses for the summer. He pointed her out way out there with a stallion and a bunch of mares. I told him I'd go get her, and he said you can' get her. Took me a bit, but in a while I walked up with her. Ya know, what people so often do is try to get any animal by goin at it's back. Just runs 'em and wears out the person who can't understand WHY!

Right. You just went at her the right way and she sensed you were not out to hurt her. Horses bad habits are all man made.
