I shoot a Tokina 12-28 F/4 on my D7000 and I am very happy with the results. It is wide enough and has the extra bonus of being long enough to use for shots of people and anything else you may use a small prime for and no changing of lenses. The build quality is first rate and you can buy it for only $430 at B&H. I generally use this along with a Nikon 18-300 3.5/5.6 on my D7100 for travel purposes and it works well for me. This range is really nice for cityscapes. It is one of the reasons that has kept me from leaping to an FX camera. Good luck!

Scott thanks for proving this up for me. First you have fat fingers. There is no 19-24, it's 10-24 a very popular lens in the Nikon camp.

What I am suggesting is a non-tradition supply source, side walk pricing. Side walk pricing is the price that is establish by a willing seller and a willing buyer. Much negotiation is done. You quoted Amazon. look at their trade-in pricing.

What I am saying is buy at whole-sale price. I am very confidant that I can find a Nikon lens in qualify condition and price. I give that it is a hassle.

Love my Sigma 10mm on the D7100, however, if you can afford it, I would move up to the Tokina 11-16mm, it's worth the jump, especially if you can use the "Push / Pull" AF clutch

I have a D7100 and am in the market for a good, reasonably priced [say abt. $500 or less] wide angle lens. I'm looking for suggestions as well as comments regarding the Sigma 10-20 f/3.5 EX DC HSM Autofocus zoom lens which I saw recently [for $449] and thought might be a good option.

I want to thank all for the opinions and options you've left for me. I'll go over all the information and check out the available options before I pull the trigger on a new lens. Thanks again. (I'm not sure, but I hope I'm using the right channel for my thanks to all who responded to my inquiry.)

Look into the Samyang/Rokinan/Bower etc etc line made in S. Korea. They are manual focus but a great value for money. I use their 14mm with my full frame Canon.

I have Samyang's 14, 24, 35 and 85mm (manual) focus lenses. Love them all for image quality and price. I use the 14 and 85mm probably the most; both for astro/nightscape photography. I prefer the 35mm for daytime walk around shots...

I also use an Opteka 6.5mm, probably manufactured by Samyang as well, for fisheye work. A fun lenses!

The older Sigma 10-20 zoom (f/4-5.6) is one of my 'cold, dead fingers' lenses. I understand that the newer (f/3.5) version is even better. I shoot Canon, though, and Canon has a 10-18 zoom which has been called the best UWA zoom around, period. It has their new STM focus system and image stabilization. And it's a complete steal at $300 street price.

I realize that this last doesn't help the OP, but it might help others on here.

A used, mint condition in the box Nikon 10-24mm on ebay are going from 590.00 to 650.00. Consider the Nikon, it matches your body, has very good reviews, and will be worth more than the Sigma down the road. $100.00 more for a quality product is not bad, and, you will get that $100.00 back when you decide to sell it over the Sigma.

Might be a good buy and a good idea. I have a Nikkor 10-24 that I used on my DX D90 and now use on my full frame D750 and it is an excellent lens. I've taken some great images with it! In Sept. it gets to go with me to Wyoming for more work around some serious wilderness lakes.

I use exactly the same lenses on my D7200. I recently used them on a trip to Switzerland and had great results. The Tokina has a 77mm filter thread so I used my CPL interchangeably. The Tokina easily fit into the Nikon kit bag along with the 18-300 mounted on the camera. The 42 mm equivalent of the 28 zoom came in handy in several situations. It's extremely well worth the $430 price. Good luck.

I bought mine refurbished when Nikon was having a 10% off.
AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED

I love using this lens when I want to gather a scene, indoors, outdoors, or the night sky.

I just bought the Sigma EX DG Aspherical DF 15-30 mm F/3.5-4.5 DF DG EX ASP Lens For Nikon on ebay for $210. It's a great big lens and I love it. It does autofocus very quickly on my Nikon D7000 and on my Full Frame Kodak DCS Pro-14n. I think it's a great lens. I was considering going for a wider lens and downloaded uncorrected images taken with wider lenses, but realized that by the time I straightened out the vertical and horizontal lines using Photoshop lens correction filters, that I was cropping away most of the extra area captured with the wider lens. I think the 15mm-30mm is an ideal zoom range for a wide angle on both the DX and FF bodies.
The filter tread is 82mm, but can only be used on the DX because it makes a circular vignette on the FF images at 15mm. Instead I got a 105mm polarizer for use on the FF and DX and will just handhold it in front of the lens to avoid any vignetting on the FF.

I think that the whole point is as I first stated hard pressed to find a bad UWA of any stripe.

Outdoor Photographer had great article on shooting wide.
