Like a carpenter saying his favorite tool is a rip saw .
I think that the decision as to which lens is the right one for the job should be based on the nature of the job.

ok, my name is terry and i have been hooked on 28mm primes for years.
i have worn out many a shoe while zooming in on foot.
spent silly money on obscure glass to feed my addiction,

any one else afflicted by this poison of choice ?

I like wide angle too- 12-24mm one of my favourites.
But you can't 'zoom on foot' -you just get closer, which changes perspective and pretty much everything else. If you like the shot, just got to take it, crop, and hope!

My favorite is an old Soligar 20mm f2.8 MF that I inherited from my father. I have used it in everything from my N8008 to my D610 with great results.

Surely you know that the Nikon AF 28 f/1.4is not only a spectacular lens but has become sort of cult object among landscape specialists and other users. It happens to be one my very favorite objects (I happen to own two, when I found the second one at a bargain price).

For me, hands down, 24mm lens. Cannot wait for the new 24mm f1.8 Nikon. I still own a Nikon 24mm f2.0 AIS manual focus lens. My all time favorite lens.

Ditto that! I find even when I'm out and about with the 24-85 zoom, when I review the images later most were shot at or near the 24mm end. I too have been using a 40 year old 24mm ais but the new 1.8 is going to be in my bag when it becomes available.

If I could choose only one lens, it would be a 35mm lens.

Been shooting 46 years now - and I agree, for general artistic interpretation, I prefer a 28mm .....2nd choice, 35mm.

I also like prime lenses. One of my favorite wide angle lense is a 20mm f1.8 Nikon lense for full frame. This ultra sharp lense, while not an ultra wide angle, is very versatile.

I don't go anywhere without my superb Tamron SP 20-40 lens. I use the 20 & 24mm settings often.

When I was younger I used a 50mm f1.4 almost exclusively. Sorry to say, but I guess I have gotten lazy as the years crept up. My favorite focal length is now whatever keeps me from having to hike farther than necessary, so I stick a 24-70 on the D750 and call it good.

The lens that is on my camera most of the time is my 105mm f2.8, but that is because I am addicted to macro. If I were to choose my favorite walk around prime lens it would be my 40 year old 24mm f2.8 because it is very sharp and I can always crop later.

My favorite lens is my Nikon 24-70 for general landscapes. I do find however that most shots are taken between 24-33mm in focal length. This summer on 2 occasions I would have killed for an 18mm lens as I just could not get what I wanted in my 24mm frame.

That said, I still love my 24-70 and will not be getting rid of it ever!!

A little less than a year ago, I purchased Nikon's new 20mm 1.8 with the thought that I would carry it for the occasional wider shot that I might want. For landscapes, cityscapes, street photography and many other things, it is a wonder. Probably 70% of the time it stays on the FF camera. The new 300 f4 with VR stays on the D7100. The 24-105 , which I thought would be my main lens, has ended up being my back up lens. Surprising what a year will bring
