Captured this pretty little female and decided to dress her up a bit. Notice my color choices. Please try the download.

Your choice of colors works very well jwt. The background I feel could use a little more blending work. I think it is a wonderful treatment of this creature.

Thank you Frank, I really wrestled with this one; I knew what I wanted to accomplish but getting there was fun to say the least. A little more of the background blending might be just the ticket. Thanks again for your visit and for your very nice comment. Much appreciated. :-D :-D

Beautiful work, and so unusual to see such artistic treatment used with insects, whose beauty is often overlooked in the chase for detail.

I agree with Frank that some background blending, particularly of that blotch that seems to descend from the tip of her tail, would let her shine more.

I'm trying to learn this kind of approach myself, it has intrigued me for years and I've only now begun to tinker with it. I hope you'll keep posting these lovelies for us to enjoy and learn from.

Thanks so much Minniev for your visit and kind comment. As I said to Frank this one was really fun as the background was really giving me fits for a time. Having said that, it's all part of the learning process and I really enjoy being able to produce these. The key I think is from the capture if its one you can be satisfied with, the next step is visualizing the finished product and then trying to make that happen. It doesn't always work, but it sure is fun travelling that road. Thanks again.

:-D :-D

hi, jwt,
the more I come back to look at this, the more I realize that i miss the sharply defined venation and edges of the wings and legs that characterize the sorts of dragonfly images that most avidly attract my attention.

the BG treatment has the definite effect of obscuring the more delicate details.
These are definitely of a surreal bent that is, I think, an acquired taste...and, I must admit, I may be on my way toward that acquisition, but I'm not there yet.

Hell, I'm 75 and I still cannot stand Brussel sprouts!

I'd certainly be glad to see more.( of your dragons...not Brussel sprouts)

Dave

HI Dave, my abstracts of dragonflies is one of my newest works in progress in the abstract realm. When abstracting, birds, insects or any other type of wildlife, one has the choice of making the subject drastically clear (which takes it away from the abstract approach) or hinting at what the subject is by obscuring its clarity from the original image and of course there is somewhere in between that is the solution I'm trying to reach. I want you to see and understand what the subject is but I don't want it to be graphic art. I'll keep working on it and hope to improve as time and subject matter allows. Thanks for your indepth look at this one and FYI brussel sprouts are delicious if you cut out the core, saute them in olive oil with garlic and red pepper flake and serve it with an ice cold beer LOL. Thanks again my friend! :-D :-D
