I'm moving from St Louis to Tampa in a week! It's a return trip for me as I went to high school in the sunshine state. Have totally documented Stl and now have a new opportunity. One of the trips I'd like to take is into the Everglades to do wildlife photography.

My understanding is that people have released pet Boa
s and Pythons there and they are taking over. Also want pics of gators.

My understanding is that this site is based in Miami. Has anyone done anything like this? Perhaps I should hire an airboat and a guide? Please advise.

I was down there awhile ago just goofing around with the family. My Dad lived there. We got an Airboat to take us around site seeing. They go very fast and don't give you much time to shoot. If I was to do it again, I would make sure they knew I wanted to take pictures. And see if they did that.

It is true that pythons have been released in the Glades, however, in 3 years photographing in the Everglades I have not seen any.
If you can afford it I recommend a guide and definitely experience the airboat or canoe trip.. Most important...use COMMON SENSE in unfamilar territory. Gators are everywhere and you should have no problems. Places to photograph off RT#41....Ten Thousand Islands, Everglade City (off RT#29), Shark Valley ALL entered
via RT#41 thru Naples. From the East Coast enter thru Homestead area of FL. The photography is great. Also, a MUST...visit Clyde Bucther's Gallery right on RT#41 for superb B&W photos 9 you'll be very impressed).
Have fun and good luck shooting.

Common sense dictates that I'd never take a canoe trip through there.

I would have a guide if you are not experienced in walking thru semi-dangerous territory. And nothing has been done about the pythons. Have any ideas? Then hurry down.

nicedream, you ok? I hope it wasn't me that upset you. We are just trying to be helpful. The glades can be pretty danerous if you don't know what you are doing.
And if the offer to date was for me? NO :-D I am to old to start dating again. And the wife might get mad too!

Why did you write and ask our advise? As you you liking women, we aren't shocked. We're all big boys and girls.

Or, perhaps YOU are trying for shock value. Won't work here.

LenA is correct...Rt. 41 is a great place to be able to take your time and see gators in the wild...was there this time last year and stopped at several road side parks. There were canals and streams with no less than 15-20 gators, gar fish and other species. I was able to photograph gators that were 8-10 feet away....so word of advice...have a lookout and make sure you have dry ground under your feet, and DO NOT wear flip-flops not good traction and hurts the gators digestion.lol
