Oh no, the Silver Pig needs $3082. bucks. Seems the old gal is in need of a new Alt and battery (only $900.) for that.

Then there is the matter of the High Pressure power steering hose, Both lower A frames, Fan belt, Top motor mounts, Front brakes, and Oil cooler seal.

Anyone know the winning lotto number that will be called?

Maybe I'll get a foam cup and stand in front of the Nissan Dealer.

well thats the problem with buying japanease. when things go wrong the parts have to come via osaka. when a ford needs repair the parts come from detroit. maybe its time to trade her in. how much mileage does the pig have on her? after 100k all cars start needing major service. heres an idea offer to trade you taking photos of the dealers staff and cars and they give you a major discount on repairs.

This maybe the final call for the Silver Pig. I think the Pig is worth about $7,000. and the owner still needs to pay off $3000. on the note. The Pigs has bit over 125,000 miles on her, but this is the first time she has needed any kind of repair work.

As for being from Japan, the Pig was built in America, of a Renault /Nissan design. The engine and tranny did come from Japan though.

Thanks for the ideal about how I can pay for the repairs.

Yes I do. But this is the first repairs the Pig has needed in 125,000 miles.

Only $900 for an alternator and a battery ? Hum ......

Is the Nissan Dealer and your doctor related or just good friends maybe?

it is at that age where long term repairs are around the corner. transmission problems, suspension major brake overhall, ac problems, fuel pimp, water pumpsm radiators etc. by the way $900 for an alternator and a new battery? are they out of their bloody minds? its a nissan not a bmw!you can get an alternator and battery for a lot less then that at auto zone, and they willl install the battery for free! if you are replacing both you need to get the serpintine belt ( the belt that runs from the alternator to the ac comptressor to the fan behind the radiator ) replaced as well. they are going to have to take it off anyways to fix your alternator. they usually have a life span of 100,000 miles so if its the origional belt its on its last legs. good luck

I had a Ford Ranger truck - the transmission was a Mitsubishi. A lot of Chrysler & Dodge parts are Canadian, many GM parts are from Mexico. I read that even Harley Davidson has started to use some imported pieces.

Some of the Toyotas and BMWs are made here, though. ;)

yes but when you buy american the money stays in the country and keeps americans working. I guarentee you that even on a caddy, an alternator and battery is not going to cost $900, Yes I was from Michigan how can you tell? we had a saying back home, when gm gets a cold, michigan catches pneumonia!!!

Diet;
Are they selling you a solid gold alternator and a NiCad battery for a hybrid? Battery at Sears is only $150 for their largest DieHard. And the alternator can be rebuilt for about $100 and that includes upgrade for larger diode bridge and heavier gauge wiring so it puts out 120 amps or more. For the rest of the repairs, take it to Midas and get an estimate. Seals in an oil cooler can be replaced. Dam boy, they're robbing you blind there at your Nissan Dealership.

There is a rant in my local Craigslist from a woman who took her Maxima to the local Nissan dealer for an oil change. Cost her $179!!! And she got nothing but an oil change! (Not even a kiss goodbye)

I think all new car dealers charge way too much for repairs. $900.00 for an alternator & battery sounds like a major rip off to me. I have an old Lincoln, and the local dealer gave me a quote to fix my transmission a few years ago that was almost what I paid for the car. My neighbor recommended a local garage here in town. The guy charged me a little over $100.00 bucks and the car never ran better. I have been using that guy for all maintenance & repairs ever since! The car now has almost 200,000 miles on it, still going strong.

Diet, try finding a local mechanic and get another opinion.

I think it's time for you to look for a new pig.... and a saddle. Go somewhere and practice staying on the mechanical bull and then go for a ride. It'll get you noticed anyway and maybe someone will take pity and provide you with a new Nissan. Or Chevy. Or......Just make sure you get a really large boar so your feet don't drag or then you'll need new brake shoes too.

Maybe you should just go buy yourself a new ten-speed bike.
