I have an Nikkor 70-210 Zoom lens. Can I use a converter with it or are converters or multipliers only for fixed focal length lens?

Great photo - I think your horizon is a bit tilted though..

You can use a converter on a zoom lens. Check your manufacturer for compability.

I use Canon equipment and a 1.4x converter on a 70-200 lens with good results..

Like anything though, you do not get something for nothing. A converter will reduce light (an f2.8 becomes an f4, etc) and introduce some noise so stick with a native focul length unless you really need it..

If you want Nikon teleconverters there are three: 1.4, 1.7 & 2.0. They will only mount on a very limited number of expensive Nikon lenses. There are a few zooms on that list.

Larry--I too use Canon--- 40D and a T2i and I use a 70-200 f/4L IS USM and a Tamron 17-50. Which converter do you use?

I use a Canon 70-200 f2.8 with the Canon 1.4 II convereter..

I don't use it often on this lens because the reach it affords is minimal if I'm using a FF at the time, it can prove beneficial if "just a little more" helps fill the frame.. The reach on your 40d would be noticeably more..

I love tour 1st image of the sun setting over the lake. In looking at your profile you are obviously more qualified than I am so this reply is being posted with some hesitation. In my eyes the image would look better (to me) with actual sun cropped out with just the reflection and fishermen. Please, share with me your feelings on this. Thanks. JW

Possibly. The beauty of photo imaging programs is I can do that if I want. I have about 10 versions of this image- horizontal, vertical, cropped, but I like this one the best because of it's balance. The sun in the top third, the fishermen in the middle and the weeds in the foreground. I may crop it though and delete the sun just to see how it looks. Thanks for your interest.

There was no criticism intended. I know when I look at an image my eyes are drawn to the brightest part of the image. I enjoy the image so much, I had to comment. Thank you for sharing it.

Criticism is what makes your images better. I appreciate it.
