I scanned this 5x7 print, and wish to remove the two distracting heads from the background. I have ViewNX2, Capture NX 2 and Capture NX-D. All help appreciated. Thanks.

You will need a pixel editing program with a healing type brush, like Photoshop, or Photoshop Elements. I'm not a Nikon shooter, but I believe the software you have is a raw converter/editor only and does not contain the tools you need. Perhaps others can tell you how to accomplish this with what you have, but I believe you'll need access to more appropriate software.

Its a very nice shot. personally I would crop the picture just below the hands and another tighter crop on the head and sides to give a more square appearance to the shot. This will do away with the negative space above the heads, if not the clone tool works quite well if you know how to use it in PS.

That's sort of what I figured. Thanks.

Make a selection of what you want to keep. Add a layer mask to it.
Add a new background from another photo and place it beneath
the selection layer you just made.
The people you just selected will show on the new background.
This is how I do it with Photoshop; not sure how to do it with Capture NX2.

I'll have to read up on that. Appreciate the info.

Since you are familiar with the two Capture programs that you have listed, you should upgrade to Capture One Pro. Especially now that it is now subscription based.

That's great, Bill. Looks like I really need to at least get into the basics of post processing. Much appreciated!

You're fortunate in this case that the background is pretty plain. Picasa is a free editing program that can handle this with the "retouch" tool, similar to cloning in other programs.
