College was great fun, and I learned quite a lot.

The life.....

Now retirement.

I found this and as I think about, this is the one think I recall as an every day event while in college, and looking back now from retirement, it's the one thing I still do daily.

Yes, and I do miss those old hangars.

It costs so much more to get into my car with the keys locked inside since "old wire" hangars disappeared.

I wasn't aware that they disappeared. The Laundromats still use them. It wouldn't take too many visits with dirty shirts until your closet fills up with wire hangars - it is always useful to have at least a few around!

After I retired, I realized that the whole point of education is to get a job that's good enough to let you retire some day. :D

Is that really the point? That would be an interesting topic.

Making coffee over the top of an old Coleman lantern.

And Kraft Mac & Cheese dinners for special occasions.

There are a couple of generations out there that have no concept of how to live when you're broke.

I operate on the assumption that a degree in any field is an enhancement over no higher education.

I don't think specific field or course of study greatly enhances the earning potential of a dynamic person with a generic degree.

That said, I did closely examine the diploma of my Cardiologist before he cracked my chest open. The only part that befuddles me about that is that I was asleep at the time, so I don't really know if he was at the wheel during the arterial replacements???

I do know that my right calf has itched mercilessly for years now, but I hear that is normal.

Hmmm?

Makes me wish I spent more time in college as I would have thought up that remedy myself. Love retirement though, just wish it wasn't so retiring.

While retirement might not be the point of education, failing to become educated can make a happy retirement less likely. Of course, if you're good at hitting a ball with a stick, then that's a different story.

Well... I am 100% for a College education.... but there are times when stupid dumb luck has a part in life..

I Graduaged from HS in May of 1957, went to Florida in July of 1957, My cousin asked If I wanted a job... SURE WHY NOT... on Aug 2, 1957 I took a job with RCA (NASA CONTRACTOR) Processing 70mm film on automatic Film Processing Machine.. Moved up the next year and in June 1961 was promoted to 2nd Shift Leader, worked my way up became 1st Shift Manager and then became Department Manager in 1966. Went to Federal Electric in Nov. 1966 as 2nd shift manager and in 1970 became department manager with 23 men and 3 women in the Dept.... The Department had well over 6 million in specialized Equipment.

In November of 1976 FEC's contract was over with the end of the Apollo/Soyuz Mission... Came back to Illinois and took a job in Briggs Inc. Manufacturer of Vitreous China (Toilets/sinks/etc) In one year was manager of the Q&A department and worked there 24 years in that position...

Company closed down in 1999 and I went to work at Quebecor Printing where I stayed until 2005 when I retired.... Comfortably I might say..

NOW.. not bragging..Just indicating how Luck and HARD work can be useful in unforeseen ways....

SIDE NOTE: Too bad Keenan is not around so he could call me a liar once again...LOL....It never ceases to amaze me at people who have absolutely NO idea of a persons background/circumstances and/or work history can make the comments he did.

Mike
