I have been member for a while and have seen nasty conversations between people. Here is how it plays out.

member #1 Posts photo..or whatever.
member #2 Posts critical response.
member #2 Receives a critical response to their critical post.
member #2 Complains that people are being critical.

reminds me of when my kids were in kindergarten

So true. As someone who critiques student work in my teaching, I always stress that criticism of a student 's work is NOT criticism of the student. It is often difficult to separate the two.

Yep.

And it plays out over and over again...but it doesn't have to be that way. it could be like this:

member #1 Posts photo..or whatever.
member #2 Posts critical response.
member #1 Takes criticism to heart and improves or asks more questions about the critique...and then improves.

No other members appoint themselves the UHH critique-sherriffs so they stay quiet about it and just offer their own critiques.

Everyone is happy, and the OP learns things from all types of folks and the threads stay clean and helpful without the arguments.

Yep. br br And it plays out over and over again..... (show quote)

UGH. Shouldn't this be posted in the critical rant section rather than right here in the wide open? Shouldn't this have a photo attached that we're suppose to be looking at? I thought this was a photography forum? Don't I have rights that you don't have? Blah, Blah, Blah, and etc. too.
Just kidding!

The rest of that quotation says ....'then stay outta the kitchen'.

You take your chances out in the big world.... best to just put on your big girl panties and deal with it. Or your Spiderman t-shirt and matching underoos.....

Most important...understand you are not going to change their attitude and best you grow a thick skin or stay on the porch.

I've noticed over the years that a lot of the big dogs are just a lot of fluff and circumstance -- they just growl a lot because they are old and have no teeth to bite with and can't run fast enough to catch you so they just huff and puff a lot. So, if ya can't outrun with the big dogs, stay on the porch.

It's possible to criticize without being rude or nasty. It's just a matter of respecting other people.

A certain amount of respect is good for everyone when dealing with people, it helps keep the body count down to a sensible level.
But:
Respect is not a god given right and sustained respect is something that must be earned over and over again..
