I just missed another opportunity to photograph the aura borialis in my home state of New York. That darn work got in the way again. Tonight 6/25 seems to be active again. Anyone get any good photos! Photographing this amazing light show is still on my Bucket list.

I drove away from my yard and the lights to a big slough 1/2 mile away hoping for some reflections in the water. It was calm and beautiful and the light show was amazing, lasting for 2 hours. Swatted a few mosquitoes and could hear the coyotes howling in the distance!
amazing the colors the camera sees that our eyes do not

when the brightness of the lights went away I noticed to the south it looked like the Milky Way with some left over green in the sky--it really was an amazing night!

Every once in a while they show up---but I was never lucky enough to capture them. A group of us went to Iceland last Feb for 10 days and they only were out there briefly one night and very pale---so this was very exciting for me. I live in the southern part of ND and think they see them more farther north.
one nice thing about this show was that it was 60 degrees out!
good luck on your aurora hunt in Alaska
the sky here only looked to have whitish streaks and the camera picks up the colors maybe up there the green will be visible to the eye

here's a couple from the night in Iceland

the red glow was from the erupting volcano that they told us was 40 miles away and there was this lenticular cloud hanging there that looked like a space ship. The foreground with a bit of reflection was an ice lagoon. It was very windy and we really had to hang onto our tripods to keep them from blowing over, but an amazing night!
