Now that you tried a cheap, not conviniently-shaped foam cup, take a look at purpose-built diffusers for pop-up flash:

I like both shots, leaning towards the second one as a favorite. There's just something about an isolated flower that is appealing to me. There is a very good candidate for isolation in the middle of the first photo.

It actually fit pretty good stuffed between the lens and the flash housing. I have looked at the Gary Fong diffusers before. I think I am going to have to invest in one.

Amazon sells a similar diffuser from Cowboy Studios which is cheaper
