How to change resolution

Hi,
I am trying to make a Published Photo Book for a Friend as I have been documenting the entire process of him moving a small barn off my property, onto his adjoining property and then as it has been morphing into a cute little house.
He doesn't know I am doing this for him and his wife.

I want to change my entire Folder of photos to 1600 X 1200 resolution and I don't know how to do it.

Can someone direct me in this please.

What resolution are they at now? If you want the best quality there's a piece of software called Perfect Resize made by OnOne Software that will resize to your size requirements. In fact, you can enlarge up to 1000% bigger than the original without loss of quality.

My camera is set for 1600 X 1200 but my husband was taking a lot of the photos that I want to use and he has his camera set at 4288 X 3216...way too large. I need to change all of those to 1600 X 1200 to be acceptable for the publisher I want to use.

Thanks for the refrenced program. I will look into that.

I just recently bumped into this site and I love it! I wish had more time to spend here.

If you haven't any kind of editing program already, then a simple ( and free) one that does just the basics, ...is IRFANVIEW. It will allow resizing to specific preset sizes, or custom sizes. Since you want to go from larger to smaller, this will do fine. If you wanted to go from smaller to larger, then Bob's suggestion is the best way to go with the program he mentioned.

I agree that Infanview would accomplish file reduction at no cost. It can be downloaded from www.download.com, a safe online site run by CNET.

I have no experience with Infanview but have been using the free and very nice PhotosScape for some time. http://www.photoscape.org/ps/main/index.php It has a powerful Batch Editor that I use all the time to first rename a day's shooting with an evocative name, date, and serial number and then another run to re-size the batch into a sub-folder, reduced in height to 500 pixels, which makes them suitable for e-mailing. With the Batch Editor you can resize any number of photos with just a couple of mouse clicks. The user interface is a bit confusing, at first, if you have only used the PhotoScape Editor. Instead of getting photos one at a time from the left-hand, directory-tree and thumbnail display as you do in the Editor, in the Batch Editor, you first click on Add in the right-hand pane. You can add as many photos as you like. Once you have them "added," direct your attention to the three tabs below the Add button: Home, Filter, and Object. All you need to do is pick a choice from the Home tab's Resize drop-down menu and enter the size you want you photos reduced to. I don't know if you ran the math, but a simple re-sizing will solve your problem because the proportions of the two sizes you quote are the same. In other words, no cropping will the required. When you hit Convert All, the Save "wizard" will come up. You can leave the file names unchanged or mess around with the Save As A New Name radio button and all the choices for things you can select and enter in the boxes. Just make sure you see what you want in the little, easily overlooked "Ex)" line. Futz with the choices and put in spaces and/or hyphens here and there until the Ex) line looks cool. Then save. Zip-Zop! All you photos will be re-sized at once and your originals preserved automatically.

Thanks Charles and everyone. Like I said before, I already had IrfanView and didn't realize that it was such a Power House! I got all of my photos resized in a matter of a minute or so...all 289 (I found some more to add to the folder first)of them. I have put it on my Desktop so I won't forget I have it now...and it is FREE. Since I saved so much money on a program I already have, I ordered two new replacement windows for my kitchen this morning! I think I'm pretty SMART with all your help! I'll be back.

Babushka, did you first check to see if there were any ghosts in those pictures? You are really good at detecting them, I noticed! Be careful - that might be a haunted barn. : )
