This is the original 'Flying Red Horse' from the Magnolia Oil Building. (now Magnolia Hotel) It was erected on top of the building in 1934 to celebrate a convention of oil magnates in Dallas. It remained on top of the building for 60 years. It was finally taken down due to it's deteriorating condition. (it has been replaced with a duplicate) It was found in storage a few years ago. A group of Dallas businessmen commissioned it's restoration. It can now be found in front of the Omni Hotel in it's original rotating state.

Your welcome.... Good article.... In 1934, before Magnolia was acquired by Mobil, it had obtained the rights to the Pegasus... The instillation of the sign on top of the Magnolia building was never meant to be a long term thing. It was initially a 'Look AT Us' thing for the big whoop-ti-do with all the oil magnates at the Building in 34...... 'The Flying Red Horse' was / is a term the locals (kids) used. We were more interested in shooting old Coke bottles with a 22 than Greek Mythology..... :)

 At the time the sign was made the only company in the U.S. that could make a baked enamel sign that large just happened to be located in Dallas.

Thanks... It actually was 'lost'... someone who recognised its significance just happened to come across it in a warehouse a few years ago.
