Most people only get to Expierence the Grand Canyon from the overlooks at the South Rim or the North Rim.I have been Lucky I have rafted 192 miles of it from Lees Ferry to Whitmore Wash . Here are some facts about the Grand Canyon: the depth of the river is inches to about 100ft.;the width is 76ft.at mile136 to750ft at mile 193;water temp when released at Glen Canyon Dam is 46 degrees and only reaches 60 degrees at Lake Mead;the river travels at about 3 to 10 mph most of the time;it drops a total of1709 ft in 279 miles 8 ft.p/m 25 times that of the Miss.river;river flow is measured in c.f.s or cubic feet per second;lowest documented flow since the Glen Canyon dam was built is 1000c.f.s. in 1977 the highest is 93;000c.f.s. in 1983. Here is the view I had on my trips. hope you enjoy the pictures. I will post these in 2 or 3 posts a total of 46 pictures. the first trip was in sept 1988 Lees Ferry to Bright Angel Trail 88 miles. Then a 7 mile hike out.

These were wonderful, I enjoyed the narration as well! That is a trip my husband has always wanted to take, not too sure he will make it now as we are not as young as we once were! ;-) Looks like you had a really good time!

Unkar Rapid is a Class 3 to 4, but it's all good.

Really like those waterfall photo's, and I'm guessing just about all shots were handheld? Was always curious about the trout fishing too....thanks for the info!

You made me feel as though I'd done the trip with you. I am surprised though that the Anasi Ruins was available to "trod upon". Also, I think water rapids are categorized on a 1 to 5 scale. No biggie. Shots benefit by downloading and I think a CPL might have worked well. Realize camera gear needed to be simple and well protected. Absolutely a great trip opportunity, and you covered it well. Thanks. djt

most rapids are rated 1 to 5 but the Grand Canyon still uses the old rating system of 1 to 10.eaither way 4 or 8 it was one Hell of a ride. there are about 15 rapids that you run in the Grand Canyon that you wont forget. I think that the ruins are open because very few people hike up to see them.not everyone stops there.in hindsite a cpl might have worked in some places.

you can do the whole canyon in 8 days on a motor trip but you wont get to do as many side hikes. check it out at Oars.com. Thanks for looking.

Interesting photos and information. I always wanted to make one of those trips, but health unfortunately prohibits it now. I'm glad you got to do it and take the photographs. I'll look for more of these posts from you.
