Help with Elements RAW Processing

When I have finished processing a RAW file with Elements and click on "OPEN", the file opens in the JPEG/PSD editor, but as a PEF file, which cannot be edited further. I can save this PEF as a JPEG, open the JPEG and continue, but there must be a way to click "OPEN" in the RAW editor and have the file open in either JPEG or PSD. Any ideas??

Many use a workflow that involves using Lightroom to work with RAW images up to the point where they need an edit in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, exporting to one of them for further edits and then outputting to the final target, usually a JPEG. The advantage of this I that Lightroom keeps track of all the edits, so you can go back to your RAW file with the edits, even though it's never actually been modified and can be used for other purposes later. I think you might be making life too hard by trying to do it all in Elements.

I thought PEF was a Pentax Raw file? Anyway I think if you go to preferences you will be able to specify that your Raw opens as a PSD which is Adobe's own format and allows you to edit at will.
