I took this at California crossing in Dallas.... This is a historic westward expansion route first used by Indians. (there is even an indian marker tree their) The public road is gated, closed when the river floods and had just been re-opened

Albert...Those of us who live in Dallas will recognize the significance of this shot. The last sixty days we have had a significant amount of rain...as can be seen in this swollen Trinity River. We've had rain almost daily for two months. We've had enough rain that the five year drought we've been in is now over, and lakes that were very, very low are now actually releasing water. This photo of the Trinity reminds me of three thunderstorms that came through back to back thirty years ago and it rained cats and dogs for three days. The Trinity Levees were filled to within feet of the top. The Dallas Zoo flooded, as did the basement (and all of the electrical systems) of the Republic National Bank.

Over the course of 60+ years I've seen the best and worst of it. I've never seen a river system anywhere else in the country that can change from a dirty little brown stream into a raging torrent almost a half mile wide in a matter of 48 hours. Until you've seen it, you really don't 'get' the the most extensive levee system in the country.

BTW.....That was a nice thunderstorm last night!! Another day of rain. I'll have to get down to the WRL spillway to get a shot or two.
